KUBO 久保 is an interdisciplinary artist who uses sound, video, annotation, form, and installation to explore a deeper understanding of place. Drawing from observation and site-responsive processes, KUBO treats place not as a fixed location, but as something constructed through memory, experience, and time. Annotation functions as both a method and a visual language—marking, translating, and sometimes disrupting what is seen or heard. Their work navigates the space between documentation and abstraction, questioning how meaning shifts when place is mediated or fragmented. Through spatial and sensory encounters, KUBO invites viewers to reconsider how perception and presence shape our relationship to where we are and where we have been.
KUBO has exhibited their work at The Anderson Gallery (Richmond, VA), Candela Gallery (Richmond, VA), Grace Street Theatre (Richmond, VA), Sechrest Gallery of Art (High Point, NC), Detroit Artists Market (Detroit, MI), Public Pool Gallery (Detroit, MI), Ann Arbor Film Festival (Ann Arbor, MI), Anton Art Center (Anton, MI), Oakland University Art Gallery (Rochester, MI), Wing Luke Museum (Seattle, WA), Nolan Park, Governors Island (New York City, NY), and internationally at Shiro Oni Studio, the Kanna Art Festival, and the Fukuoka Prefectural Museum of Art in Japan.
KUBO received a Bachelors in Studio Art (New Media) from Oakland University and a Masters of Fine Arts (Kinetic Imaging) from Virginia Commonwealth University.
KUBO currently lives and works in Japan.
